What’s new in Categories Uncomplicated

The bigger features and improvements, newest first. Each entry is tied to the app version it shipped in. Routine fixes and maintenance aren’t listed.

More accurate breadcrumbs (v2.13.3, May 2026)

A single category can no longer appear more than once in the same breadcrumb trail, so trails read cleanly even on deeply nested menus. The Category Advisor also now flags duplicate category URLs across parent and child levels, so you can find and fix menu problems before customers see them.

Works on translated and international storefronts (v2.13.0, May 2026)

Sub-category icons and breadcrumbs now render correctly on translated storefronts with Shopify Markets URLs (for example /en/, /fr/ and country-prefixed paths). Customers shopping in any language or market now see the correct category navigation instead of a fallback.

Free plan added (v2.12.17, May 2026)

You can now use Categories Uncomplicated on a Free plan with up to 10 categories at no cost, and upgrade to Pro for unlimited categories whenever you’re ready. New installs start on the Free plan with no commitment.

Icons on top-level collection pages (v2.12.1, April 2026)

Category icons now also appear on a top-level menu item’s own collection page, not only on the pages of its sub-categories, so the top of your category tree is navigable too.

Rebuilt on Shopify’s modern admin components (v2.10.26, January 2026)

The in-app admin was migrated to Shopify Polaris Web Components. The settings, refresh and advisor screens are faster, more stable, and match the current Shopify admin look and feel.

Server-side rendered breadcrumbs and icons (v2.10.0, November 2025)

Breadcrumbs and category icons are now rendered on the server with no storefront JavaScript. They appear instantly with no layout shift, work even if scripts are blocked, and are fully visible to search engines.

Named breadcrumb schema for richer search results (v2.8.0, September 2025)

The JSON-LD BreadcrumbList now includes a proper name for each level instead of an unnamed item, so Google can show a clearer category path in search results for your store.
